Tennis as we all know is a sport for all ages played between two players (singles) or two teams (doubles). LSU was selected to participate in the BCS National Championship Game after a 13-0 regular season that culminated with a 42-10 win over the University of Georgia in the 2011 SEC Championship Game. Alabama was picked as the other half of the match-up following an 11-1 campaign, with their only loss coming against LSU in overtime during the regular season. Over the following weeks, a series of upsets resulted in the Crimson Tide receiving a No. 2 ranking in the final BCS Poll to qualify for the championship game. This was also the first time the National Championship Game was a rematch from a regular season game (Florida defeated Florida State 52-20 for the national title in the 1997 Sugar Bowl prior to the current BCS format). As a result, the SEC’s championship streak was extended to six straight seasons. The two teams have met 75 times, with the Tide leading the Tigers in the series 45-25-5 going into the game. In the last four meetings, each team won two games, with Alabama winning a 27-21 overtime victory in 2008 and a 24-15 win in 2009 and LSU winning 24-21 in 2010 and 9-6 in overtime in 2011.
