The Strike Exxon Out of Nationals Park Campaign had a victory on the evening of Friday, June 20, the first game of our planned 46-game campaign

June 21, 2008

Prior to this game, since the beginning of the season, the Nationals had posted a huge "ExxonMobil Seventh Inning Stretch" sign in red on their huge scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh inning. On the evening of the 20th, however, clearly in response to our campaign, they changed things up. Instead, in light blue, they used the scoreboard and the mezzanine lighting going around the field to promote what they described as a partnership between ExxonMobil, the Nationals and the Alliance to Save Energy , and they had language promoting, in general terms, energy efficiency.

This blatant attempt to soften ExxonMobil’s image squares with the national TV advertising campaign they have launched. In it, they posture as if they are a leader in the fight against global warming and for energy efficiency and renewable energy, which is completely untrue.

Despite this Nationals/ExxonMobil greenwashing, hundreds if not thousands of people responded to our campaign’s call for action and booed during the seventh inning stretch up until the singing of Take Me Out to the Ball Game. It was a great start to our summer campaign to Strike Out Exxon Out at Nationals Park!

Get a life. Why don’t you use your time to actually help clean up the city rather than protesting an energy company that can and will be the solution to alternative energy sources.

I’d also ask you to investigate why you’re following the same global warming alarmists who were making claims of global cooling 30 years ago. Or do you blindly follow because you need something to make you feel good about yourself?

Yeah, there’s no way “hundreds, if not thousands” of people at that game booed — I didn’t hear a single one, and I was sitting in the middle of the outfield bleachers. Anyway, what’s the point of booing? If you like Nats park for being green, wouldn’t you want people to keep giving them money? Especially the company that usually spends that money making the fuel you hate? In other words, would you rather have Exxonmobil or “green” Nats park have those dollars?

    Watch Out for Fakes!

    Watch for phonies!
I went to a game recently and maybe were protesting $4/gallon
gasoline! True liberals want $8/gallon gasoline!
Higher price - less usage! If you see somebody protesting,
make sure that they are protesting the right thing!
